Changed date accelerates Night of the Stars movie production

The class of '10 chose to showcase a comical murder mystery. Freshman Paige Powell films classmate Nick Methgen as the lead role in the movie.
Snowflakes hang from the ceiling as lights dazzle inside the ice cave. Night of the Stars, an alternative winter formal tradition on campus, will be held again in Wilson Theater at 5:15 P.M. on Jan. 20.
Students will eat a catered dinner in a banquet hall decorated in the theme of "Winter Wonderland" at the Cornerstone Conference Center and watch four movies created by each class inside the theater. However, this year presents new challenges for moviemakers because of the date changed from February to January.
“It was really hard getting everyone together and getting everything done on time, especially calling everyone and making sure all their schedules work,” Philip Unruh, senior director, said. “I’m looking forward to finishing the movie and making people laugh.”
The senior class movie portrays the story of man who wants to live his dream of being a janitor. He must overcome obstacles in order to achieve his goal.
“We have finished the script and are currently filming the movie,” Unruh said. “I think our movie will be funnier than all the others but if anyone is interested in helping, they can e-mail me."
The juniors' movie mixes comedy with a rivalry between two paperboys, one who drives a car and the other on a bike, who challenge each other to a paper delivery contest.
“We wanted to make something original and funny,” Sean O’Neal, junior director, said. “It has been very hard getting any juniors interested and involved because the past two movies were really bad.”
Another comedy by the sophomores follows the plight of one man while he prepares himself for a formal event.
“It is difficult trying to coordinate any filming over Christmas vacation due to people being out of town or not wanting to be involved with the movie,” Andrew Rurik, sophomore director, said. “We had to film during lunch and fight the fact that everyone is around us.”
The freshmen movie adds drama with comedy to their murder mystery movie.
“Our movie has serious and comedic parts in it,” Paige Powell, freshmen director, said. “It is hard getting everyone together but I really enjoy the filming and camera work.”
Parents interested in viewing the films may see them for $5 at Ground Zero at 10 AM on Jan. 20. Those who show up will vote for the Peoples' Choice Award and will be provided with refreshments.
