With the football season under way, there is excitement and anticipation building amongst team members. However, game attendants often forget the hard work that goes on in order to make all the food that the Moms and Dads Clubs prepare.

Mike and Pam Henderson, parents of freshmen Lance and Sabrina, along with Shelley Freitas, mother of freshman J.D. Freitas, have decided to take on the challenge of heading up the concessions for the first time at home football.

By taking part in the Moms and Dads Clubs, Mike Henderson aims to improve and encourage FC's athletic department. Facing difficulties of a mere number of three running the club, the group is searching for assistance.

"I just want to make a difference in this school and really make the athletics soar," Mike said. "I know they had a rough year last year but I know that me and the other parents [sic] can make a difference. The school is going to need help with concessions by serving food, drinks and various other treats and ticket sellers."

Although the title implies that only parents are involved, the Moms and Dads Clubs are open to high school students, who can can sign up in the athletic department. Junior Stephen Melendez sold churros at the Sept. 9 and Sept. 23 games.

"I just love selling things," Melendez said. "I have been doing it since I was little, and can't wait to join the club."

In their concessions, the group aims to provide a special food item at every game, like grilled chicken sandwiches and meatball sandwiches.

In addition to more members, the club is in need of donations of bottled water, gatorade, sodas, napkins, paper plates, plastic utensils, paper cups and paper bowls. For every case of water donated, the donor will receive two free entrance tickets; for every case of gatorade given, the donor will receive four tickets.

For more information on how to get involved in or donate to the Moms and Dad's Clubs, contact Mom's Club President Shelley Freitas and/or Dad's Club President Mike Henderson through their listed highlighted emails. The Fresno Christian Athletic Website also contains schedules, scores, players, teams and contact information for all athletic staff.

Some other events that parents are involved in this year include the "We Are One" Family Carnival, which will be hosted by the Parent Action Committee, Oct. 23.

Great article Dustin, just one clarification. The 'Club' is coordinating concessions for all sports, not just football. It's a great opportunity for parents of kids in one sport to help in a different sport. That way parents who have a student playing football, can watch the football game and later in the year work at concessions for basketball, so a parent who worked during football can watch their student play basketball. Make sense? Thanks to all the parents and students who have helped so far. Let's keep it going!
