Unlike most starters, senior Austin Rurik is given the opportunity to play for the 58th annual Fresno City/County All-star football team in June. Rurik played organized football for the first time during the 2011 winter season.
Rurik received the invitation from Fritz Lauritzen, but is still unsure about his response to the notice.
"I was stunned [when I first heard], I have been chosen as one of the top 47 players in the senior class in the Valley," Rurik said. And I was completely excited at first thought, but I'm still trying to decide if I can do it." Rurik went on to say he already has camp commitments during the weeks leading up to the game that he needs to adjust if he were to play.
Throughout the season Rurik scored a total of 94 points, and rushed for a total of 1141 yards.
The game is exclusive to high school seniors and students are taken from 38 Valley schools. The official game will be played at 7:30 p.m., at Buchanan High School's Veteran's Memorial Stadium, June 22.
