Leaves change color, cold winds gush through the valley and the second quarter of school rapidly approaches; these changes call for a second trip for Adventure P.E. 2008. A group of students led by Scott Callisch plan to revisit Yosemite National Park, Oct. 17, as an encore due to the success of last year’s trips.

The students plan to arrive and rent bikes to ride on the trails throughout Yosemite. The bike rentals cost $19.95, but the trip only costs the students $15. They hope to ride on areas surrounding Curry Village and absorb the fresh outdoors for a day.

When recalling last year’s trip to the national park, Callisch looks back on his favorite memory.

“The best part about last year’s trip for me was rappelling down into Moaning Cavern,” Callisch said.

According to The Fresno Bee, two recent rockslides in Yosemite near Glacier Point occurred Oct. 8. This phenomenon resulted in the destruction of cabins and at least three injuries in Curry Village.

“I don’t believe the rockslides in Curry Village will affect our planned trip,” Callisch said. “I think we’ll be all right. Well, that is, if no more slides happen.”

Senior Ani Paparigian, who has personal experience with the “great outdoors,” looks forward to revisiting the park herself.

“I signed up for the Adventure P.E. trip because this past summer I was living in uncharted wilderness areas of Yosemite National Park,” Paparigian said. “It was an awesome experience and I can’t wait to go back.”

Although Yosemite is only about 80 miles from Fresno, many students have never been given the opportunity to visit the national park. Though Julianne King, ’12, is not participating in the trip this Friday, she hopes to someday experience the popular region.

“Although I’m not going on the trip to Yosemite this week, I myself have never been,” King said. “Maybe sometime in the near future I will be able to see the realness in the pictures I have seen of Yosemite.”

The Adventure P.E. trips not only introduce students to new activities, but may inspire them to learn new ones.

“The trip is going to be a lot of fun!” Callisch said. “Everyone should participate; don’t miss out on this huge opportunity.”
