Soccer: the sport of the world
Feb 08
Here in America, the main sports include basketball, baseball and football, but the world’s number one sport is futbol (or as we call it, soccer).
Now what I don’t get is why soccer isn’t as popular here in the US. Don’t get me wrong, I love football, basketball and baseball. But why is it that more people don’t love soccer? You could make an argument that it’s too slow, but in my opinion, baseball wins in that category. If you’ve ever played soccer, you know that it is a tough sport. You have to run up and down a huge field over and over again without a break, and you can’t use hands!
The one thing I hate about the sport of soccer is the amount of acting involved. If you watch a professional game, players will get bumped and then hit the turf, writhing in fake agony and releasing a loud scream to complete the charade. I mean seriously? It just gets ridiculous.
But the flopping does make it more fun to play.
“I saw you flop! The guy didn’t even hit you!”
“Well I’m tired! What do you expect me to do?”
Despite all this flopping, I do believe that soccer is the real contact sport. When two men are running at each other and decide to jump into the air and aim their head at the other (with no pads!), things have a tendency to get ugly. Real ugly.
So today I challenge you to watch a soccer game. Why not? Those guys put their heart and soul into the team. The least you can do is show up and offer a few words of encouragement. Odds are, you’re going to be glad you went.

Amen, brotha!
This is all true. One time I was in Mexico during the World Cup,and Mexico defeated France 2-1. The streets were filled with flag-waving fans. The Super Bowl doesn’t even come close.
