A (senior) night to remember

Feb 22

Cooper Belmont, Brady Lee, Ryan Neufeld, Chandler Vargas, Tyler Krigbaum, Josh Grinage, and Raman Singh.

Seven outstanding basketball players, all on the same team. I like to call them the Dream Team. Each one retains mastery of certain elements of the game, which comes together to make a lethal combination.

Sadly, these players are all seniors. We only have them together for a few more weeks before they go their separate ways, leaving the realm of high school to move on with their lives. But for now, they’re all ours.

Battling it out at their last league home game, the Eagles took on the Caruthers Blue Raiders, Feb. 10. I really hope you were there.

The Eagles were slightly behind all game, the Blue Raiders consistently sustaining a small lead. When the fourth quarter began, the game was still close. The Eagles started to come back, and by the end of regulation the score was tied, causing an overtime to ensue.

Behind at first, the Eagles fought back, eventually winning the game due to the combined efforts of all the players, especially Neufield, who made some very clutch shots to put FC ahead.

The team displayed heart, courage, and an undying passion to persevere and win the game. That game reminded me of “Tebow Time”: the late game heroics of NFL quarterback Tim Tebow, and inspired me to never give up, to never lose heart, and to never take a loss lightly.

I can’t put into words the pure awesomeness that we all experienced during that last half hour, but I know that it is something I will never forget.
