Live without fear
Mar 07
To any of you who are at all familiar with the hardcore/metal music industry, you might have heard of the band For Today. And For Today is very well-known for their lyrics revolving around Christ and His power.
You don’t have to look up any of their music, because I understand that it might not be your cup of tea. But I strongly encourage you to just read some of their lyrics. I recommend songs like “Devastor,” “Seraphim,” or their newest song, “Fearless.” The lyrics of “Fearless” are going to be what I focus on mainly in this post.

As you can tell by the title, the song’s theme is addressing the issue of fear. We don’t normally think of fear to be a spiritual issue, but I believe that it is. Fear at its core is, honestly, a lack of faith in God to protect us.
One of the lines in the song is, “We bear the scars of the risen son, so tell me what should we fear?” If we are children of an all powerful, loving God, then what do we really have to be afraid of? If He could handle being tortured to the point of death, and then rising again, don’t you think He can handle anything we face on earth?
Another song the addresses the idea of fear is “Breathing Blood” by Oh, Sleeper. This song has one of my favorite song lyrics, it says, “If death is victory, then how afraid of life can we be?”
As believers, we know that this is a sick and lost world that is ultimately headed for destruction. And we know that as believers, heaven waits for us on the other side of death. So what is keeping us from living our lives to the fullest spiritual extent?
My challenge for you, is not for you to live each moment like your last. But I challenge to to live as if it were last moment for everyone around you. Live without selfish fear, but live with a concern for those around you. Don’t be afraid to step out and share your faith, their eternity may depend on you reaching out to them.
Oh, and For Today’s album, Immortal, drops May 22. Check it out if you want some great, metal, Jesus worship.
