The Nest, No. 1: Back in School

Aug 28

Howdy everyone! These school days have been going by quite fast haven’t they? I miss summer and I bet all of the elementary does too, but now we are back at school and I think this year will be the best one yet.

Convocation

With a new school year finally here, what is a better way than to kick it off with our annual Convocation? For those who didn’t know what the huge ceremony was, it’s called the Convocation; where the gathering of FC students, parents, and staff celebrate the new school year with singing, worship and praise. We also get to hear about Mrs.(Debbie) Seibert’s story that inspires each new theme for FC.

FC's anual Convocation invites all students, parents and faculty to join in worship and prayer to start the school year.

This year’s theme is “We Are One: Standing Firm” so let’s not forget it. I thought this year’s convocation was outstanding and fun. I also enjoyed seeing my friends again.

New Ways to Learn

This year the elementary students are going to be learning advanced math with the help of, Khan Academy. Khan Academy is an online website where you can learn about math by practicing with online courses, watching videos or attaining mastery.

There are also new overheads that connect to the teacher’s brand new iPads which enables us to see the writing on the iPad from the overheads. I think that using Khan Academy can update my learning skills on math and that the ipad is very useful for the whole classroom to see what the teacher is writing.

Student Summer Reviews

People are constantly telling me about how their summer vacations are, so I have been thinking; why not have elementary students share their summer memories on here? I went outside and throughout the playground during lunch recess to ask a random selection of kids about how they liked summer vacation and what they did during our time off school.

  • “My summer was great. It was the best summer ever,” fourth grader Faith Monroy said.
  • “My summer was amazing,” fourth grader Hannah Villines said.
  • “My summer was awesome,” sixth grader Ashley Zammarripa said.
  • “My summer wasn’t only awesome; it was also fun! I went to Carmel and had an epic time there,” sixth grader Mark Soghomonian said.
  •  “Summer for me was absolutely cool,” sixth grader Ryan Freitas said.

Well, I thought my summer was absolutely wonderful; and what makes summer most memorable of all is seeing your friends and family. Please tell us about your summer by leaving a comment on The Nest.
