LETTER: Wish I changed earlier

Dear editor:

Coming to FCS was a hard decision for me but has turned out to be one that I am glad I made. My parents had wanted me to go to a private school for as long as I can remember and I pushed with all I had not to.

In my eyes a private school would be filled with a bunch of snotty, uptight rich kids. Circumstances led to a point where I didn't want to continue at Clovis West and an inner district transfer to another Clovis school was not possible. My only options were a school in Fresno Unified or private school. That's what led to me coming to FCS.

My thoughts on private schools took a 180 degree turn my first week here. Not only were the kids not uptight or snotty, they were very open and welcoming. This was apparent five minutes into my first day at convocation when a number of students and teachers came up to me and introduced themselves. It was like I was part of the family before they knew my name.

This trend continued throughout the year when everyone accepted me with open arms something that I never would have gotten at Clovis West. This was the most dramatic change I felt between public and private school. The teachers here are so approachable and caring that it felt more like a family relationship than a teacher/student relationship.

Ending this year I only have one regret: not listening to my parents and coming here earlier.

In the fall senior Brahamjit Randhawa will attend Willow International Community College Center in Northeast Fresno.
