Justin Houts ran the marathon to succeed in a personal goal he set for himself. It began last year with former Physical Education Teacher, Ericlee Gilmore, who passed away from cancer, and carried on into Houts’ senior year.

“I started doing it last year because Ericlee and I were planning on running it together before he passed away so this year I wanted to do it again as a memory of that, ” Houts said. “I ran in the Clovis half last year and I did the same thing this year. It wasn’t for a specific cause but it was just kind of a personal obstacle I wanted to overcome.”

Michael Fu joined to accomodate the lack of cross country team at FC. Strength and conditioning could not fit into his schedule either, prompting him to run a marathon.

I feel like the marathon is something that people in my age look up to as something that is extreme and even impossible to accomplish, but the fact is, if you are determined to finish the course, He has provided the strength in every single one of us to accomplish every task that may seem impossible in our life. –Michael Fu

“I felt a little bit unprepared,” Fu said, “But was happy with my capability to finish the run. Through out the course, I saw people cheering each other despite knowing them or not.
