Senior Josh Carter dribbles through the Tranquility defense, Dec. 14.

Boys Soccer faced Tranquility High School, Dec. 14, in a non-league preseason game the Eagles were 1-2 in preseason games at this point.

The boys traveled to Tranquility in hopes to get a win against a tough opponent. The game started fast with both teams passing and attacking well.

Both teams fought hard for a goal early, but due to offside calls both the Eagles and Tigers went goalless for the beginning of the game. However, the Eagles were the first to capitalize on their next chance and Jacob Bynum, ‘17, scored the first goal of the game.

With hopes high now having the lead, the boys had to regain focus because they knew the game was far from over. Soon after, the boys were unable to keep the strong attack of the Tigers away and they scored on a corner kick to even the score at 1-1.

After previous games that reached this point, the Eagles were not going to ease up and let the Tigers take the lead. Seconds after the second half started, Senior captain, Josh Carter, dribbled through multiple defenders for a goal making the score 2-1.

But then the game took a turn for the worse for the Eagles. A breakdown in the defense led to a goal from Tranquility making the game even at 2-2. Soon after the game was at an even score, again the Tigers scored to take the lead, 2-3.

With 28 minutes left to play, the boys kept fighting for a goal to try to take the game into overtime. With many scoring opportunities failed, the Eagles were left without a goal for the rest of the game. The Tigers would go on to score two more making the final score 2-5.

Coach Matthew Markarian reflects on the game and looks forward to the upcoming Garces Holiday Soccer Festival tournament.

“We need to continue to improve our toughness. We had tranquillity beat and we were not able to finish the game strong. This weekend our focus will be as it always is, that we play well and stay focused on getting better as a team. I expected us to have issues early in the season, we are very young and have a lot of new players we are trying to integrated into the team scheme.”

Sophomore Tyler Villines is pleased with how the beginning of the game went but knows that his team needs to stay strong throughout the whole game.

“We started off on fire and did really well the first half. At one point in the game we were up 2-1 but towards the end fatigue really started to settle in and we started to look slow and sloppy. That’s when they scored their last few goals.”

Supporters, there is no excuse for not attending, here are traveling directions to the tournament.  The boys are playing in the Bronze Division and the girls are in the Silver B Division. For more information and updates, check out the Garces Holiday Soccer Festival website.

The Eagles soccer team is now 1-3 in preseason games. League play will begin in January 2016.
