Serve Day sign ups

[/media-credit] Senior Maicy Luginbill, ’18, signs up for the annual school ‘Serve Day’, Feb. 20.

Maicy Luginbill, ’18, signs up to volunteer at the Raintree Convalescent hospital during chapel for Serve Day, Feb. 20.

Every year at Fresno Christian, volunteer high schoolers help out in the community. Serve Day engages students to interact with a variety of people and a chance to make a difference in their city.

Service has always been an integral part of the learning experience at FCS for teachers and students. This is the eighth year that the high school has done an entire day of serving altogether.

The places they will be going are Habitat for Humanity, Wesley United Church, Reading Heart, Discovery Center cleanup, Raintree Convalescent, ReStore (Habitat for Humanity), Graffiti Abatement and Community Food Bank.

Leadership teacher Robert Foshee facilitates Serve Day. He thinks this day helps students understand that they can make a difference in their community.

“Serve Day allows students to be God’s hands and feet in the community as well as letting the students see others parts of Fresno and understand the needs of Fresno,” Foshee said. “I think it’s great for the community because people and organizations can see students doing things that are positive in the city. Favorite part of serve day is seeing the reactions of students, teachers, and community members.  Each person seems to gain a new appreciation for the other and realize what things God is doing in different parts of Fresno.  It’s one of the favorite days of the year for everyone.”

Those who have not signed up or did not know which one to do will be designated to where the student is most needed.

“We’ll almost full in all the activities; we have a few spots left with Reading Hearts,” Foshee said. “Every year, I serve alongside students at one or multiple locations.  I wouldn’t miss the chance to do that!”

While high school serves the community, JH will be on FC and Peoples Church campus.

This year, the school will leave at 9:30 a.m. and finish at 2 p.m. March 1.
