Eagles win the CIF Central Section 8-Man Valley Championship, Nov. 24.

No. 5 FC defeated the No. 9 Trona Tornadoes, 28-0! The Tornadoes, with a 10-0 record, and the Eagles with an 8-4 overall, went into the game with confidence, hoping to win the title.

Junior Anthony Lonardo (7) opened the scoring with 2:54 left in the first quarter on a 1-yard TD run. He had 8 rushes for 11 yards.

Four different Eagles scored TDs but QB senior Tyler Villines had his hand in 3 of them (2 passing, 1 rushing). Villines led the Eagles, passing for 121 yards and 85 rushing. In comparison, Trona only had 91 yards on the ground.

With 1:49 left in the first half, Villines connected with #21 Brandon Brogan (21) for a 45-yard pass play for a TD. Brogan finished the game with 75 yards receiving.

His second passing TD was with 35 seconds left in the half as Villines passed to Aaron LaCroix (6) for a  27-yard reception. Villines opened the third quarter with a 3-yard TD run. This was set up after he scampered 36 yards for a first down and FC led 28-0. The Eagles quarterback finished the game with 85 yards rushing and 121 yards passing. His longest was a 45-yard toss to Brogan.

Sophomore Blake Burdan also rushed for 42 yards and scored on a rushing 2-point conversion and made two PATs. FC had 263 total yards on offense while Trona finished the game with 124 yards.

The Eagles’ defense did the rest. This was FC’s only shutout of the season. Congratulations to coach Russ Counts and the Eagles on winning the third consecutive 8-Man Valley championship!

Second year Feather staffer, Blake Deffenbacher, ‘20, spends his second year on the Feather team as a video journalist. In his first year, Deffenbacher developed his camera skills as a photojournalist, learning the workflow and concept of media in journalism. Over the summer, he used those skills in his church, CrossCity Christian Church, working alongside the churches creative arts and media team to produce numerous marketing and promotion videos. Deffenbacher spent this time with his church practicing and perfecting his filming, directing and editing skills. This year, Deffenbacher hopes to use those skills to benefit the video team. Outside of The Feather, Deffenbacher spends time practicing to play for his schools golf team. After winning the league championship as a team and finishing second place overall in the league individually last year, Deffenbacher hopes to lead the team to the Valley Championships this year. Upon graduating, Deffenbacher plans on moving out of Fresno to attend a four year university. His hopes are to major in business management or marketing. With that expertes, Deffenbacher sees many career opportunities in marketing and business. Deffenbacher knows that the skills that he learns on The Feather team will benefit him in his future careers, both in media and writing.
