After supporting and cheering for newspapers and yearbooks ahead of The Feather, the team’s time finally comes. Editors Mariana Fiske, ’18, Samuel Cross, ’19, and Alex Rurik, ’18, and Jaden Ventura, ’18, race to the front of the auditorium to receive the Gold Crown plaque.
The Feather has now won CSPA Gold Crown six years in a row, with eight Gold Crowns since 2010. The team has also received six NSPA Pacemakers since 2006.
Once the ceremony comes to a close, the team heads out to the steps of Columbia University for celebratory photos.
NY traveling team will connect with The Feather home Fresno crew to celebrate the victory.
Writer Matthew Sue, ’18 shares his feelings concerning the Gold Crown.
“I was really happy that we were able to win this award,” Sue said. “I was able to watch the awards ceremony from here and it was pretty cool to be able to watch our team win the award in real time. I am glad that we were able to bring back this award for our school and our publication.”
Feather team, home crew and NY travelers, express their deepest gratitude to Columbia Scholastic Press Association for this honor. They would like to thank the administration, advisers, editors, writers, photojournalists and video journalists who made this accomplishment possible.
The team also recognizes administration, teachers and especially IT adviser Robert Hyatt. Today’s victory could never have been possible without the support of these people. The following video recaps the final day of The Feather Online’s trip to New York and the CSPA’s 94th annual Spring Convention, including portions of the award’s ceremony.
