Worship team introduces: ‘Deb and the Destroyers’

As the Fresno Christian campus high school worship team continues to introduce new songs and bands in chapel, the all girl band, ‘Deb and the Destroyers’ leads a song, Jan. 29.

The band represents the entirety of the girls on the worship team, many of them playing instruments that they had never before attempted to play. The team leads the song, ‘This is Living’ by Hillsong Young and Free, featuring a rap solo by junior, Deborah Ingerson. In the months leading up to the Tuesday chapel, the girls spent time practicing and rehearsing the song, all while learning and nailing down the instruments they would play.

Junior, Lindsay Weimer, learned to play the electric guitar for the girl band chapel. Only ever singing before, Weimer enjoyed the new experience of playing an instrument.

“Learning electric guitar for this chapel was a stretch for me”, Weimer said. “I hadn’t ever played any instrument before, so learning guitar took a lot for me to figure it out. In the end, it was fun to get to do this, and I can’t wait to get to do this again!”

With the preparation for the girl band chapel over, the worship team begins to work on introducing new songs and bands. Stay tuned for the newest updates from the worship team.

Blake Deffenbacher
Second year Feather staffer, Blake Deffenbacher, ‘20, spends his second year on the Feather team as a video journalist. In his first year, Deffenbacher developed his camera skills as a photojournalist, learning the workflow and concept of media in journalism. Over the summer, he used those skills in his church, CrossCity Christian Church, working alongside the churches creative arts and media team to produce numerous marketing and promotion videos. Deffenbacher spent this time with his church practicing and perfecting his filming, directing and editing skills. This year, Deffenbacher hopes to use those skills to benefit the video team. Outside of The Feather, Deffenbacher spends time practicing to play for his schools golf team. After winning the league championship as a team and finishing second place overall in the league individually last year, Deffenbacher hopes to lead the team to the Valley Championships this year. Upon graduating, Deffenbacher plans on moving out of Fresno to attend a four year university. His hopes are to major in business management or marketing. With that expertes, Deffenbacher sees many career opportunities in marketing and business. Deffenbacher knows that the skills that he learns on The Feather team will benefit him in his future careers, both in media and writing.
