Tips to stay healthy during coronavirus, flu season

[/media-credit] According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), March 11, washing hands for about 20 seconds with soap helps prevent illnesses.

Flu season continues as the Coronavirus has now spread to more than 100 countries, March 13. Flu season has been at its high during the beginning of fall through the end of spring. Over 56,000 people die from the flu every year with 12,000 people dead from Oct. 1, 2019 to Feb. 1, 2020 only in the US.

This year however, the health focus is the coronavirus (COVID-109).

During the winter months, influenza deaths and infection increase, so a few tips to stay healthy during the flu season and the coronavirus outbreak may limit a person’s likelihood of getting ill. For up-to-date information on the COVID-19 outbreak, visit the CDC.

A very convenient tip that most everyone should do on the daily is simply washing hands multiple times per day. Keep your hands away from mouths, eyes, face, while washing hands several times a day at least for 20 seconds.

Another tip is eat a diet rich in vitamin C and vitamin E. These vitamins help boost the immune system to fight off illnesses. Try to steer clear of foods containing concentrated sugars, which impairs the immune system.  As well as a clean diet, a good night sleep also boosts the immune system. A full night’s sleep keeps your body’s natural defenses at optimum efficiency.

Not only do vitamins and good sleep boost the immune system, but exercise keeps the immune system growing stronger and can help promote healthy sleeping. Physical activity can flush out bacteria out of lungs and airways. This can reduce the chance of the flu or illness.

Stay hydrated! Lots of liquids including water, Gatorade, and even fruit infused water helps keep viruses from spreading. Hydration can prevent fevers, and can keep your throat moist. Water also helps flush out viruses out of your immune system.

Finally, national, state and local authorities are urging people to stay in their homes and limit their exposure to no more that 10 people at a time.
