Monterey Bay Aquarium hosts over 35,000 creatures, representing over 550 species. With nearly 200 exhibits in all, the aquarium offers a glance into the sea. The aquarium first opened its doors in 1984 after converting the Hovden Cannery, built in 1916. In October 2014, the Aquarium celebrated 30 years of inspiring ocean conservation through its exhibits, education, research and conservation programs.

PROMO: Zoology class travels to Monterey Bay Aquarium, Nov. 21

In order to assist zoology students in understanding California's marine ecosystem and the ocean's biodiversity, teacher Nathan Case takes his class to Monterey Bay Aquarium, Nov. 21. In the aquarium, students will have a chance to see some of the animals they study class and study them. For example, students will observe starfish and their eating habits along with some fierce marine life like sharks, according to Case.

Students study mice and other animals in Zoology and Biology, Oct. 19. In order to learn more about the life cycle and the food web, the lab is the home of mice, fish, a gecko and a bullfrog. Having animals in the lab allows students to take their knowledge to the next level by giving them a hands on learning experience.

While most people were still sleeping students from AP biology and zoology were already ready to leave for Monterey Bay Aquarium at 6:45 a.m. This field trip was led by Dr. Walters who is the teacher for both classes. This is her fourth year of teaching at Fresno Christian and she has taken her students on this trip all four years. Each year she brings in new elements to the trip. Her first year she only took zoology students and it wasn’t until the second year that she took both.
